Originally Little Witch Academia came out as a 26-minute short film written by Masahiko Otsuka and directed by Yoshinari. Studio Trigger’s short film received great appreciation, and dropped a second part in 2015, in theatres in Japan. Once again receiving lots of great reviews and love from the entire anime community, Studio Trigger turned it into a show which launched in 2017, and later was brought to Netflix, from where it receives g; global recognition and universal appeal and admiration. In Japan, the series was released as a 25 episode show. But when it was launched on Netflix, these 25 seasons were split up into two parts- two seasons and were released in July and August of 2017.

But ever since then there has been no news regarding the making of Little Witch Academia Season 3.
Despite the huge fanbase and international demand, there has been no news of Little Witch Academia Season 3, even though Studio Trigger is open to the idea and has tried to get it up and running in the past. Director Yoh Yoshinari has expressed that there was a desire for another season to be made, but it simply never got off the ground. This, to some extent, can be attributed to the sudden passing away of Michiru Shimada, the screenwriter of both the 2015 short film as well as the 2017 series of two seasons.
