FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST PLOT

This sci-fi show revolves around the exciting and unusual adventures of two brothers Alphonse and Edward Elric who want to bring back the bodies that they lost during their failed attempt to bring their dead mother back. Both are gifted with the powers of Alchemy. So they search for the Philosopher’s Stone.

Dante is the main antagonist in the series. He is the former lover of the Elric brothers’ teacher Hohenheim. It was Hohenheim and Dante who had perfectly made the Philosopher’s Stone and transferred their souls and intellects into other bodies as they age and attained immortality.

But over time Hohenheim left Dante because of the constant guilt that pestered him about sacrificing souls for the stone. However, Dante is reluctant to risk the rebound of creating a stone herself, even though she can still transfer from body to body with the last stone she had created along with Hohenheim. Hence she uses homunculi to encourage the Elric brothers along with other equally desperate Alchemists to create another complete Philosopher’s Stone for her.

One of them called Scar somehow managed to create the Philosopher’s Stone but infuses it in Alphonse’s body due to which he gets kidnapped. When trying to save his brother, Edward gets killed in the process. Alphonse successfully retrieves his Edward using the stone but disappears in the process. Must say that it is not a very happy-go-lucky series. It has a lot of dark content like death and destruction.

The Elric brothers can be seen fighting and saving each other a lot during the show. Dante tries a lot to escape but seems like her fate isn’t as easy as she thinks. FAQS ABOUT FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST ORDER:

Which Fullmetal Alchemist order should I watch first?

I watched both the series as they came out, Fullmetal Alchemist (FMA) in 2003 and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (Brotherhood) in 2009. I am biased since I saw FMA first and given that the character development in that series is the best (in my opinion), I’d suggest you watch it FIRST.

Do you have to watch Fullmetal Alchemist in order?

You do not need to watch the first FMA to watch FMA: B, but I think the first FMA expands more on some earlier plots and stories. Like, I think the Nina part is more expanded in the first FMA than FMA: B…not 100% sure, but that’s what I remember at least. I’d watch the first 20-30 episodes of the original first.

Is FMA or FMAB better?

FMA is a good series no doubt, but the ending is so abrupt,it leaves you craving for more. FMAB,on the other hand, has the better ( and pleasing) ending, with a completion on the storyline for all the characters. 2. FMA is a slower yet shorter series, but FMAB is faster but more comprehensive and entertaining.
