The film was released in Japan on July 19. It got selected as the Japanese entry for Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards. The plot:
Set in Japan during a period of exceptionally rainy weather, the story is about a high school boy who runs away to Tokyo and befriends a girl who appears to be able to manipulate the weather. The voice-overs are done in both Japanese and English.
The movie released on Blu-ray in Japan on May 27, 2020. Most of the people who watched this film liked it very much because there was just something special about it. Many even demanded why Netflix hasn’t released it yet. Then again, a digital release is planned for August 4, 2020. It did exceptionally good on box office with a total of US$193.1 million worldwide and ¥14.06 billion in Japan.

The petition named Indian Anime Movement was created in April 2019 to bring the anime movie culture to India. The success has resulted in the release of Weathering With You in India. This will be the first-ever Japan Anime film screened for Indian audiences. It will be aired on October 11, 2019. The literal meaning is ‘child with weather’.
