We hear that a sequel for the infamous Detective Pikachu is coming up! In fact, the development for this is already underway as Legendary Pictures announced the news on January 25, 2019.
Oren Uziel who is recently working on the Sonic the Hedgehog movie and Men in Black: International is set to write the script for Detective Pikachu 2.
A glimpse into the sequel starring Ryan Reynolds as the voice of Pikachu (P.C: Looper)
Well, it looks like they are confident about having a hit in their hands.
But if memory serves right there was also a sequel scheduled for Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot before its release, and look how that turned out. Nonetheless, let’s be positive and round up to see what we know so far about the film.
When is the release date?
The first movie arrived on May 10th after production took place between January and May 2018. So if we’re looking at a similar timeline then it will probably release at the earliest of 2021.
Detective Pikachu 2 likely to see Justice Smith and Ryan Reynolds come back (P.C: CinemaBlend)
The cast: Who’s coming back?
At the moment we can only assume that Justice Smith will be back as Tim Goodman along with Ryan Reynolds who will not just be voicing Detective Pikachu but also play Tim’s father, Harry Goodman. Other potential returnees include Kathryn Newton as Lucy Stevens, a journalist helping the duo with the case. Then there’s Ken Watanabe as Harry Goodman’s friend Detective Yoshida.
The plot: What/how will it look like?
As of now, we don’t really know what the story-line will be but our guess is that it may be very much different than the first. So until there’s any further update, nothing else can be revealed.
When will the trailer arrive?
Since there was no post-credits scene to tease the sequel, we will have to wait for the footage in some time. Until then re-watching the first film seems fun!
