SonictheHedgehog is a 2020 action-adventure comedy film based on the video game franchise of the same name, published by Sega. Jeff Fowler’s Sonic the Hedgehog released on February 14, 2020, and since then, fans have been dying to know if there will be a sequel to the movie.
New characters in Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will probably have Tails as the main character as it was in the Sonic 2 video game the character was first introduced due to which Tails’ appearance is expected. Any confirmation hasn’t been made as to whether or not any other characters from the franchise will appear on the screen. There’s also a good chance that the movie will introduce the character of Knuckles in a small role or in the credits tease for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, that is, if it happens. The return of Dr. Robotnik is also expected in the sequel.

Plot For Sonic the Hedgehog 2
The first movie ended with Sonic defeating Dr. Robotnik, which will set the stage for Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s story. The sequel will likely see Sonic and Tails reunite for the battle. The plot may dwell into their back-story and how they knew each other, presumably through childhood flashbacks or a montage of the same. The plot of the sequel might also explain how Sonic gets his powers from and what his origins are. Dr. Robotnik will find his way back to Green Hills and create more trouble. The audience is in for some more adventure.

Release Date of Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Paramount Pictures, as of now, has not given any official release date for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, but a sequel has been confirmed nonetheless. Considering the time for production and filming after the recent release of Sonic the Hedgehog, it might take up to two years for the sequel to be out by Paramount Pictures. Thus, the earliest release date we might expect for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 would be around early 2022 that too, in the best-case scenario. As expected, there is also no trailer yet for the sequel, just the post-credits scene of the first movie as a teaser for Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
