Season 1 of the season finally had its world premiere on March 18, 2021, at the SXSW Film Festival and was finally released on the OTT platform on April 9, 2021. The story of season 1 revolves around the time in 1953 when the black people were forced by the white ones. As seen in the series, a black family relocated from Carolina to Los Angeles; the ground of white people.
As they came here to get relief from the traumatic past in Carolina, Los Angeles brings forward more attacks and dangers. The father has to work in between the white people with his children have to go to the white school. There was a terror of attack from their side but the family must cope with the harsh reality and survive howsoever.

Season 1 revolved around Emory’s family including Deborah Ayorinde as Livia “Lucky” Emory, Ashley Thomas as Henry Emory, Shahadi Wright Joseph as Ruby Lee Emory with Melody Hurd as Gracie Emory. Ryan Kwanten was seen as George Bell with Alison Pill as Elizabeth “Betty” Wendell.
