Twitter on 15th July 2020 i.e on Wednesday experienced massive hack which is said to be the ‘global security crisis.’ The hacks resulted in takeovers of high profile accounts like that of President Barack Obama, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Bill gates, Apple, and many more. This was the biggest Bitcoin scam up till now.
What was this hack about?
Like any other hack, this hack was also a money scam. The hacker, Hacked many big profiles and asked their followers to send their bitcoins to a specific site and that it will be doubled in the next 30 minutes. The scam was large as the tweets were tweeted by some Trusted people’s accounts. Within the first hour of the attack, many people were hoaxed into sending more than $118,000 to hackers.
The blame game:
In the beginning, twitter didn’t say much about the incident, they tweeted that the news about the investigation will be updated soon. But later, Twitter revealed that its employee tools contributed to unprecedented hack. The company said that it is currently investigating the situation. They added that “We have locked accounts that were compromised and will restore access to the original account owner only when we are certain we can do so securely.”
We also limited functionality for a much larger group of accounts, like all verified accounts (even those with no evidence of being compromised), while we continue to fully investigate this.

Joseph Cox, one of the best security reporters out there said that “Two sources close to or inside the underground hacking community provided Motherboard with screenshots of an internal panel they claim is used by Twitter workers to interact with user accounts.”
It seems that for many days twitter will be busy with the investigation. A cybercrime like this takes time to get investigated. But we hope, they share as much as possible soon, before people lose their trust in twitter, which will be a great loss to them.
